Mille Miglia 2026 (99th Edition)

In June 2026, we went to the “Best race in the world” according to Enzo Ferrari. The amazing Mille Miglia. From 1927 to 1957 it was an actual race of 1600 km (1000 miles) through all the italian towns and villages, where nowadays it is not. Most drivers still see it as a race and properly go for it. The toy can be expensive, but the competition is fierce and the mechanics will fix it in the late hours of the day anyway ;-)!

We joined in Ronciglioni and followed the cars through Assisi, Gubbio, Rimini, Ferrara and saw the finish in Brescia. An amazing experience, only possible in Italy, where towns smelled like burned oil and petrol. The cars often got escorted by the Police motorcycles and were driving in between the conventional lines. I didn’t worry about our rental car, but did when the multi million dollar cars got within half a meter of ours while driving proper speeds. Definitely worth a visit if you are a petrol head!
